NVERZION, a leading provider of digital broadcasting and television station automation solutions, today announced that Pappas Telecasting Companies, the largest privately held, commercial television broadcast group in the United States, has chosen solutions from NVERZION to fully automate ten station locations between now and Q2 2007. The automation system was chosen to ensure Pappas’ viewers receive the latest uninterrupted news, local information and entertainment content, while providing opportunities for each station to grow their broadcasts in the future.
Stations that will be included in the NVERZION upgrade are: KMEG and KPTH in Sioux City, Iowa; KREN and KAZR in Reno, Nevada; WTWB in Greensboro, North Carolina; KPTM and KXVO in Omaha, Nebraska; KMPH and KFRE in Fresno, California; and KPWB in Des Moines, Iowa. Pappas anticipates the first three integrations in Reno, Fresno and Omaha to be completed by September 1, 2006.
According to Dale Scherbring, Vice President-Director of Engineering for Pappas Telecasting Companies, although the features and pricing on the NVERZION line were appealing, what most impressed Pappas was NVERZION’s knowledgeable staff. “The people we met with really understood how television stations run in the real world. They not only listened to our feedback on the solutions we needed, they went so far as to incorporate some of our suggestions into their updates. Yes, NVERZION offers a quality solution,” continued Scherbring, “but it was their staff and support that impressed us.”
Pappas’ suite of applications included NVERZION’s NControl playlist, NGest record, and NPoint for segmenting clips. The installation also includes NBase (and a redundant NBase) database of video server clips and source tapes; NView, to act as an easy access database "window"; NTime -- a time-based router event scheduler software package, EMC, an NConvert traffic interface, and NVERZION’s NFire pathfire interface. The NVERZION solution controls Utah Scientific Routing Switcher, Omneon Video Servers and VizRT Branding Boxes.
“Some of our stations were already automated using another, older package from a different provider,” said Scherbring. “These solutions needed to be upgraded, so it just made sense to switch to a common automation solution for our stations. Plus, upgrading our remaining stations to NVERZION’s solution will simplify staff training and maintenance across all of our stations.”
“To be selected as the automation provider of choice for ten of Pappas Telecasting’s stations is a great honor and we take great pride in being part of their new and newly upgraded stations," said Reed Haslam, NVERZION’s Director of Sales. "NVERZION is fully committed to the broadcast industry and to providing the high level of service, and quality products necessary to help our clients be leaders in their trade.”
The tools installed at each of the Pappas locations will dub, segment, edit and schedule broadcast material while managing video servers, VTRs, master control switchers, multiplexers, character generators, satellite receivers, cart machines, storage systems, logo inserters, still stores, routers and more for a clean and powerful broadcast. Each NVERZION component works well as part of an overall turnkey solution, or as a single stand-alone solution.
